Our Founder

İlyas Özsüer

1925 – 2016

İlyas Özsüer was born on April 5, 1925, in Skopje, Macedonia. He received his primary education in Skopje and moved to Istanbul in 1938. He completed his secondary and high school education at Sultanahmet Commercial High School and earned his degree from Istanbul Higher School of Economics and Commerce.

Özsüer began his business career in the early 1950s. Through his ventures in yarn trade, textiles, soap, pharmaceuticals, and various industrial sectors, he laid the foundation for the MAYA Group. His contributions made a significant impact on Turkish industry and the economy.

He actively served for 22 years as a member of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry Assembly and pioneered many innovations in the business world. He continued working actively in the group’s companies until 1994.

Our History

Entered the textile industry.

1960 - 1969

1965

Acquired a stake in Birgi Sanayi A.Ş., operating in the pharmaceutical sector.

1968

İslon, Turkey’s first synthetic yarn factory, was established in Istanbul.

1970 - 1979

1970

İnan Tekstil Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. was founded in 1970.

1972

Entered the real estate development sector with the founding of MAYA A.Ş.

1976

Introduced Istanbul to the concept of luxury housing with the Etiler MAYA Site project.

1977

Acquired a stake in Altaş Dövme Çelik Sanayi A.Ş.

1980 - 1989

1980

Acquired a stake in Bimed Medical Devices Industry.

1982

Founded Mayser A.Ş. and MAYA Real Estate Development Inc.

1984

Ali Nuri Özsüer, current Chairman of the Board of MAYA Holding, began working within the group.
Maytur Tourism Facilities Construction, Management, and Organization Inc. was established.

1987

Hacı Şakir Soap Industry A.Ş. joined the group.

1987

MAYA Akatlar Site was completed.

1990 - 1999

MAYA Holiday Village was developed in Bodrum.

1991

Ali Nuri Özsüer was appointed CEO of MAYA Holding.

1993

MAYA Center, the tallest office building in Istanbul over 100 meters at the time, was opened.

Modernization and capacity expansion of Hacı Şakir Soap Industry’s facilities were completed.

1994

Ali Nuri Özsüer became head of MAYA Group.

Invested in the Park MAYA Site project.

Formed a partnership with Colgate Palmolive USA Group Industry (listed twice).

Colgate Palmolive USA Group Industry ile ortaklık yapıldı.

1999

MAYA Holding was established to bring all group companies under a single corporate structure.

Istanbul’s first boutique shopping mall, Mayadrom, opened in Akatlar.

2000 - 2009

2001 - 2004

Completed MAYA Residences Etiler, one of Istanbul’s most prestigious residential projects.

2001 - 2004

Accelerated investments in the services sector:
– Opened Mayadrom Sports Center, the largest indoor sports facility in Europe,
– Introduced Mayadrom Uptown shopping concept.

Entered the retail sector with the M-Square store.
